Italy – 1979 Castello di Miramare, Trieste

Castello di Miramare does not have its own lighthouse.

However, people frequently associate a lighthouse with the castle for two main reasons:

  • The Victory Lighthouse (Faro della Vittoria): This is the famous, monumental lighthouse of Trieste built in the 1920s. It is located a few miles down the coast on the hill of Gretta. Because both landmarks sit prominently on the Gulf of Trieste, boat tours and coastal routes frequently highlight both attractions together, and they are clearly visible from one another.
  • The castle grounds feature a prominent, scenic Turret (Torretta) built right above the sea cliff. While it mimics a defensive or watchtower aesthetic common to eclectic, neo-Gothic castles, it houses a historical clock and viewing terrace rather than a marine beacon.
