There is a lift bridge near me, and I like watching it slowly rise – I used to race down to the canal to see the ships passing through (before traffic became unbearable). But, four lanes!! That is one heavy bridge.

That’s a big one from that angle! There are several vertical-lift bridges in Portland, OR. Looking at the photos now I see one is bigger, Intestate Bridge (OR and WA) is six lanes. It causes a lot of traffic jams!
