Simone Arianne Biles Owens is an American artistic gymnast. Her 11 Olympic medals and 30 World Championship medals make her the most decorated gymnast in history. She is widely regarded as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time and one of the greatest female athletes in history.

  • Biles was diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as a child and has advocated for others with the condition, viewing it as a “superpower”.
  • She was adopted by her maternal grandparents, Ronald and Nellie Biles, due to her birth mother’s struggles with substance abuse.
  • Her younger sister, Adria, is also a gymnast and they have a close relationship.
  • She collects turtles, loves pizza (especially pepperoni with stuffed crust), and has owned several German Shepherds.
  • Several gymnastics moves are named after her in the Code of Points, including a triple-double on floor and a Yurchenko double pike vault.
  • She released her autobiography, Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance, in 2017.
  • She has a leotard line inspired by her iconic competition designs.
  • Biles competed on season 24 of the reality show Dancing with the Stars.
  • She was the shortest U.S. Olympian at the 2016 Rio Games, standing at 4’8″.
  • In 2016, Russian hackers released her private medical records, which revealed her ADHD diagnosis and medication use, an incident that led her to become a public advocate for others with ADHD.
  • She has a fear of bees, which became publicly known after she overreacted to a bee at the 2014 World Championships.
  • Simone rewards herself with pizza after every meet — a beloved ritual regardless of the competition’s outcome.
