Garmisch-Partenkirchen is a German ski resort in Bavaria, formed when 2 towns united in 1935. It’s a prominent destination for skiing and ice skating as well as hiking. The town lies near the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest peak, with a 2,962m summit accessed by cogwheel train and cable car. Garmisch is considered the more fashionable section, while Partenkirchen’s cobblestone streets retain a traditional Bavarian feel.

Magdeburg is a central German city on the Elbe River. In the city center, the Gothic-style Magdeburg Cathedral is the burial place of the Holy Roman emperor Otto the Great. The Museum of Cultural History details the city’s medieval importance with exhibitions on archaeology and local history. Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen, a Romanesque monastery complex, is home to a contemporary art gallery and sculpture park.

  1. Nice to see the different views of the cities and areas. I like the Garmisch-Partenkirchen one best, as we have actually been there. We lived in Germany in Furth/Nuremberg in l971/72 and visited the beautiful ski resort. We went up the mountain in the cable car, and also stepped out onto a frozen lake. Such beauty everywhere we looked. 🙂
