Sunday Stamps: A to Z: F

“A to Z: F” is the theme for today’s Sunday Stamps.

France -1976 Marianne de Bequet
Ireland – 2009 Brian Friel, dramatist, short story writer, and founder of the Field Day Theatre Company. He had been considered one of the greatest living English-language dramatists. He has been likened to an “Irish Chekhov” and described as “the universally accented voice of Ireland”. His plays have been compared favourably to those of contemporaries such as Samuel Beckett, Arthur Miller, Harold Pinter, and Tennessee Williams.
Russia – 2022 2550th Anniversary of the city of Feodosia

  1. Hmmm… why is Russia celebrating an anniversary of a city in Ukraine? Well, I looked it up, they “annexed” it in 2014. Nothing new. It’s a lovely stamp, and perhaps someday a lovely stop for tourists again.

  2. Your fish are nice and colourful. I feel a little badly that I’ve never heard of Brian Friel until now, especially since I’m familiar with all those other playwrights he was compared with. Wow – Feodosia is old! violet

  3. I wondered about the grapes on the Russian stamp but Lisa has answered that question. I like those colourful fish. A striking portrait of Friel by James Hanley.
