Sunday Stamps: Shields, Crests, Heraldry

“Shields, Crests, Heraldry” is the theme for today’s Sunday Stamps.

It features the coat of arms of the Republic of Kalmykia.
The central image is the coat of arms of Kalmykia, depicting a white lotus with a Soyombo symbol inside a blue circle, surrounded by a traditional Kalmyk ornament.
The inscription reads “400 years of voluntary entry of the Kalmyk people into the Russian state” in Russian.

The Kalmyks migrated to the region around four centuries ago.
The capital of Kalmykia is Elista.

  1. I have got quite a few of those Ukrainian stamps, and I not always understand all the symbols. Because of the theme, I love the last one 🙂

  2. I hadn’t heard of Kalmykia (and wonder how “voluntary” they feel their entry into the Russian state was)

The Ukrainian stamps are interesting – and they have so many more letter codes than I would have expected.

  3. So much going on with some of them! So many things they wanted to incorporate I guess. The Russian one, the Kalmykia, is quite interesting. Well, all are! I like the ones with lions in different poses and holding different things!
