Postcard from Timor Leste
Timor-Leste, or East Timor, a Southeast Asian nation occupying half the island of Timor, is ringed by coral reefs teeming with marine life. Landmarks in the capital, Dili, speak to the country’s struggles for independence from Portugal in 1975 and then Indonesia in 2002. The iconic 27m-tall Cristo Rei de Dili statue sits on a hilltop high over the city, with sweeping views of the surrounding bay.

I have never seen a card – or stamp – from East Timor! The weaving beautiful. I wonder what the animal is in the centre?

That postcard and stamps from East Timor are beautiful! The tais textile looks amazing with its intricate patterns. I love how postcards can transport you to different places and introduce you to unique cultures like East Timor. East Timor only gained independence from Indonesia in the early 2002. After the independence, I applied to work for an international NGO based there to help with the rebuilding efforts. Unfortunately, I wasn’t selected. But it’s still a country I’d love to visit someday.

I wouldn’t have guessed that pattern came from East Timor. Not that I know much! It just reminds me of Central and South America. They do look like lizards. Or alligators, which really are just big lizards, aren’t they?!
