Thursday Postcard Hunt: Sunset, Sunrise

“Sunset, Sunrise” is this week’s theme for Thursday Postcard Hunt.

Postcards from Russia

At 31,722 km2 (12,248 sq mi)—slightly larger than Belgium—Lake Baikal is the world’s seventh-largest lake by surface area, as well as the second largest lake in n Eurasia after the Caspian Sea. However, because it is also the deepest lake, with a maximum depth of 1,642 meters (5,387 feet; 898 fathoms), Lake Baikal is the world’s largest freshwater lake by volume, containing 23,615.39 km3 (5,670 cu mi) of water or 22–23% of the world’s fresh surface water, more than all of the North American Great Lakes combined. It is also the world’s oldest lake at 25–30 million years, and among the clearest.

Postcard from Finland

Lapland is Finland’s northernmost region, a sparsely populated area bordering Sweden, Norway, Russia and the Baltic Sea. It’s known for its vast subarctic wilderness, ski resorts and natural phenomena including the midnight sun and the Northern Lights. Capital Rovaniemi is the gateway to the region. The homeland of the indigenous Sami people, which extends into neighboring countries, centers on the far north.

Postcard from The Netherlands

Amsterdam boat houses. This unique accommodation became popular after World War II due to the lack of undamaged houses in Amsterdam. Moreover, the Dutch fleet was modernized, and hundreds of canal cargo ships were renovated and transformed into accommodation.

Postcard from Canada

Located in Central Canada, the province shares land borders with Ontario to the west, Newfoundland and Labrador to the northeast, New Brunswick to the southeast, and a coastal border with Nunavut; in the south it borders the United States. Quebec occupies a territory nearly three times the size of France or Texas. It is much closer to the size of Alaska. As is the case with Alaska, most of the land in Quebec is very sparsely populated. The name Québec comes from an Algonquin word meaning ‘narrow passage’ or ‘strait’.

Postcard from Germany

Wenningstedt Strand is located on the island of Sylt, off the northern coast of Germany. This stunning island is renowned for its pristine beaches, rolling dunes, and vibrant wildlife.
