Thursday Postcard Hunt: Lakes

“Lakes”” is this week’s theme for Thursday Postcard Hunt.

Postcard from Belarus

A famous Belarusian writer Uladzimir Karatkevich referred to the fact that Lepel lake is the place where so-called «tsmoki» (dragons) can be found in. Now it’s the truth, because «Lepel dragon» sometimes rises up to the surface of the lake to admire its own image in the form of the sculpture at the lake Lepel and to scare tourists

Postcard from USA

Formed 7,700 years ago, when a violent eruption triggered the collapse of a tall peak. Scientists marvel at its purity—fed by rain and snow, it’s the deepest lake in the USA and one of the most pristine on Earth.

Postcards from Italy

Lake Palù is an alpine lake in Valmalenco, in the province of Sondrio, Northern Italy, at 1,925 m above sea level. It is located on a plateau surrounded by pine forests, north of the town of Chiesa in Valmalenco and south of Mount Sasso Nero. The lake is surrounded by imposing peaks and its basin derives from glacial excavation processes. The body of water, elongated from north to south, is one of the largest lakes in Valmalenco. In winter you can take advantage of the frozen surface to cross it from north to south.
Valle Spluga, Lago Azzurro (Azure Lake) – The Lago Azzurro del Suretta (2445m) is the finest of the whole valley. It lies on the west side of Cime Cadenti, in the saddle between them and the Pizzo della Casa.

The name Pizzo Tre Signori (Three Gentlemen) tells the story of the area when centuries ago it was the border point where the 3 powerful regions : Venice (now Bergamo province), Milan (now Lecco province) and Grigioni (now Sondrio province).

  1. Lepel lake seems as big as the sea, on this picture! I like a lot the last postcard, with the frozen water. But the cold there must be terrible!

  2. Dragons are so cool, so would definitely include this lake on my tour! love the ice on Lake Baikal (I was searching for a card of this lake, but i know I don’t have a winter view). I like how all of your lakes are surrounded by wilderness. violet
