What is particularly special about the “Squirrel in the Snow” stamp is that its motif was determined for the first time in a public survey. Back in May of 2023, Deutsche Post asked its customers and stamp enthusiasts what motif they would like to have as a Christmas stamp. There were eight different suggestions to choose from with familiar Christmas associations, such as reindeer, Christmas trees or Christmas balls. The winner was the motif with the squirrels and the acorn, designed in a special “polygon effect look”. 27 percent of survey participants chose the suggestion from illustrator Bettina Walter, a professional stamp designer at Deutsche Post. Almost 34,000 people took part in the survey.

I quite like the Finnish stamp of Santa flying over the curvature of earth.
And, yes, your stories behind the stamps are always interesting. We don’t have enough public involvement with our stamps. And they are planned several years in advance, so no longer any current events are represented.
The squirrels are so cute. Reminds me a bit of origami.
