Sunday Stamps: Europa

The Europa postage stamp (also known as Europa – CEPT until 1992) is an annual joint issue of stamps with a common design or theme by postal administrations of member countries of the European Communities (1956–1959), the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT) from 1960 to 1992, and the PostEurop Association since 1993. Europe is the central theme.

  1. i like that each country can interpret the theme in their own way – makes for more variety and interest, but I also really like seeing the creativity and symbolism of the older ones. Seeing a comet, or meteor, is really exciting.

    • I agree, in fact I really like how they used one of the chain links as a letter “O” ij the first stamp. Or the 19 leaves on the tree….

  2. Some beauties here! EUROPA stamps are among my favourites every year. I have some older ones in my collection, but it’s exciting to get the new ones.

  3. Those early issues were attractive and clever designs but I do enjoy seeing what countries take on a theme is. In the past, when it was the postman’s van theme, I collected the whole lot. It was a fun endeavour but something I would do only once. Now, as is usual with my collecting, I rely on serendipity
