Wayang kulit is a traditional form of shadow puppetry originally found in the cultures of Java and Bali in Indonesia. In a wayang kulit performance, the puppet figures are rear-projected on a taut linen screen with a coconut oil light.
I love it! My youngest and I saw a performance of these at the University of CA in Berkeley quite a few years ago. They are amazing. I do missing living in that area, there are no enriching things like that here.
I appreciate the intricate designs of these though I used to find them scary when I was younger and didn’t want to learn about them. ~violet
