“Big Love” by Yuko Higuchi, one of my favorite illustrators. “Yuko Higuchi is a celebrated Tokyo artist and illustrator with a cult following. She is the voice behind the dark kawaii trend, sketching whimsical illustrations of anthropomorphized characters that fuse cute picture-book-style illustrations with dark, surreal elements. In Higuchi’s imaginative universe, cats resemble ogres and foxes become astronauts”.

  1. The Japanese image is quite interesting. The bird fabric, and the same type of bird in arms. She looks like she’s holding it tenderly, but knowing cat’s facial expressions, I am not so sure! The bird may have been rocked to sleep. Or? Maybe lunch?

  2. Macrons in the spotlight, mmm. Who knew there were fairy owls. I like how Higuchi’s cat can be viewed ambiguously. I couldn’t decide between the two views.
