Åland Islands

Postcard from Finland

The Åland Islands, or Åland, is an autonomous region of Finland. Comprising around 6,700 islands, this Swedish-speaking archipelago is in the Baltic Sea. The Åland Islands are part of Finland, but they enjoy special status as an autonomous province, meaning that they are demilitarized, have Swedish as their sole official language, and have their own citizenship laws. Its only official language is Swedish and the capital city is Mariehamn.
