I know carriers (I looked it up) as homing pigeons. They are amazing, I guess no more so than how some kinds of salmon go back to where they were born to spawn themselves. As a child we used to vacation where there were cormorants, not this kind, double-crested. I liked to watch them go in and out of sea caves.
We have so many cormorants (they are slightly different than this one – who looks prettier!). The carrier pigeon stamp has a neat old fashion look so i was surprised to see it issued this year!
Carrier pigeons have always intrigued me. How do they always know their way? It’s a great image for Letter Day.
I love the proud green cormorant (I think) on the second stamp, too.
