Sunday Stamps: Glass

Austria – 2003 Overprinted with Wine Glass. After the definitive stamp for 0.51 Euro with the picture of the “Schönlaterngasse” now the other definitory stamps, which no longer correspond to the new tariffs, were artistically overprinted with the default value of 55 cents. The University of Applied Arts in Vienna invited their students to a design competition. The task was to find original graphical suggestions for overprinting the old nominal values. The students of 2 master classes enthusiastically took up this project and had excellent, innovative and surprising ideas. The best designs were selected by a jury and are now available as trademarks. Eight permanent stamps were reprinted in 2005 as overprint stamps at EUR 0.55. EUR 0.17 – the color variation cellar lane in Hadres now adorns a wine connoisseur who is currently testing the flower in the glass.
Netherland – 2022 Snow globe by Miriam Bos.
Miriam Bos explains: “The snow globe that I made for PostNL’s December stamps project felt like the perfect subject to add to the final sheet. If there’s anything that reminds us of the holidays, it’s a snow globe. It gave me the perfect excuse to add a typical Dutch scene to the stamp designs. I chose the characteristic house facades you often find in older Dutch cities. From left to right, you see a stepped gable, a neck gable, a pointed gable, and a clock gable. They could be canal houses like the ones you’ll find when visiting Amsterdam, but I deliberately did not base them on any specific street.”

  1. I really like the idea behind the Austrian stamps. I’ve been looing for the rest of the series… they are brilliant!

Snowglobes are like magic. I’ve never owned one, but they have always fascinated me. I think I didn’t get any of the USA snowglobes last year.

  2. What a clever idea from Austria. Love snow globes but I haven’t seen any in real life for years, maybe I’m not visiting the right shops.

  3. If you guys want to come visit, I have a small collection of snow globes for you to see. They don’t seem to be as abundant as in years past.
