Krakow am See is a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. It is situated 18 kilometres (11 miles) southeast of Güstrow at lake Krakower See. Mecklenburg is a historical region in northern Germany comprising the western and larger part of the federal-state Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Mecklenburg is known for its mostly flat countryside. Much of the terrain is boggy, with ponds, marshes and fields as common features, with small forests interspersed. The terrain changes as one moves north towards the Baltic Sea.
